First tutor for 2019 Spring School announced!

We are excited to announce our first tutor for the 2019 Spring School of Race Engineering! Jason Carpenter, F1 Key Account Race Engineer at AP Racing joins us once again to tutor the Race Engineers of tomorrow. 

Ironically, one of the secrets to engineering a fast racecar starts with how effectively it can stop. Reliable and predictable brake performance is an essential factor in allowing the driver to achieve the ultimate laptime. To save every tenth of a second, a driver not only wants to brake as late as they can for a corner, but also have consistent feedback from the pedal throughout the braking phase. This alone is a challenge to design, but add in the complication of brake by wire systems together with the differing requirements of each racecar and driver and you can start to appreciate the monumental task facing brake manufacturers. 

AP Racing are one of the companies who have risen to the challenge and supply brake and clutch components to many global series, including F1, WEC, BTCC/WTCR, Rally, Nascar and even Formula Student to name a few. As well as parts, AP Racing also provide trackside support engineers to help their customers maximise the performance of their braking systems and enable them to maintain their position as one of the most responsive companies in motorsport.

Jason Carpenter is one of AP Racing's trackside support engineers who primarily looks after their F1 customers. Since graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in Automotive Engineering, Jason has spent over 13 years in F1, working as a Wind Tunnel engineer for Williams, then a Tyre Engineer for Pirelli; Jason now provides event support in the F1 pitlane, working with race and performance engineers from all F1 teams, helping them to utilise AP Racing's brake and clutch components.

Jason will be teaching the students the outlining principles behind specifying brake pads, discs, calipers and master cylinders as well as trackside tips to exploit performance.
