NEW! Hybrid & Electric Powertrains - 20th March 2021
Join us on 20th March for our Hybrid & Electric Powertrains online module. As every motorsport championship continues to convert to hybrid or electric powertrains, this module will explain the engineering behind this technology. You’ll discover the strategies teams use to maximise performance of batteries, motors and inverters as well as how engineers optimise energy regen and deployment around a lap.
Tutors to be announced soon!
Tutors confirmed:
Charlotte Phelps - Strategy Engineer
After finishing her studies, Charlotte previously worked at Mercedes HPP as a Strategy Engineer. She spends her free weekends Data Engineering for Barwell Motorsport, running two Lamborghini's in British GT.
Module Programme:
Session 1 – Formula 1 power unit
Discover the inner workings of today’s F1 power units as our expert tutors reveal how the hybrid system works together with the combustion engine. You’ll also learn about the MGU-K, MGU-H and ERS systems as well as the latest tactics engineers use to maximise power unit performance.
Session 2 – Formula E powertrain
Understand the challenges of racing an electric powertrain and how to push its limits of performance. You’ll also find out how teams manage energy regen and deployment strategies throughout a lap as well as exploit Fanboost and Attack Mode.
Session 3 – LMDh power unit
Uncover the secrets behind the hybrid technology powering LMDh. Our tutors will explain the technical challenges they faced when developing a powertrain to survive 6, 12 and 24 hour races.
Session 4 – Electric Rallycross
Although the nature of Rallycross is a suitable match for electric racing, that doesn’t make the engineers job of developing the powertrain any easier. Find out the strategies teams and drivers use to exploit powertrain performance whilst coping with the brutal environment of Rallycross.
*Schedule TBC.
Q&A sessions
You will also get the unique opportunity to ask our expert tutors your questions during four live Q&A sessions.
